Microsoft has announced that the recently announced browser Edge will soon receive support video codec open source vp9, who developed Google. It is an alternative to H.265 to deliver video content in high definition and is already supported by Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Our initial implementation VP9 in Microsoft Edge will support adaptive stream through Media Source Extensions, and will be detected by the MediaSource.isTypeSupported () API.
It is designed specifically to meet the needs of web sites that use VP9 to transmit video in conjunction with MP4/AAC or other audio codecs that are already supported by Microsoft.
As we know, the Edge is the successor to the obsolete Internet Explorer, as it`s no surprise that Microsoft is committed to gradually add all the important features in a new browser. Especially as support for popular standards and tools is essential for creating and maintaining user base. By the way, soon Edge should get support and extensions.
